Which Hypertherm Power Source Do I Need?

At KUTAVAR we’ve been working with Hypertherm for around 15 years, a common question that’s often asked by our customers is:  “Which power source is going to suit me?”

Within the standard air plasma range, there are different variants available depending on your needs: the Powermax45XP, Powermax SYNC Series (45SYNC, 65SYNC, 85SYNC, 105SYNC) and the Powermax125. Each unit has it’s own pierce capacity. ranging from 12 mm up to 25 mm on mild steel.

The Hypertherm Powermax 45XP offers a very low cost of entry into mechanized plasma systems. Uniquely, the only Hypertherm power source suitable for single-phase mechanized cutting.

Capable of piercing 12 mm on mild steel and stainless steel, making it the ideal choice for thin gauge, fine-cut fabrications.

Dramatically simplifying the consumable changeover process, new SYNC cartridges can be changed in approximately 10 seconds.

Capable of piercing between 16 mm (Powermax 65 SYNC) & 22 mm (Powermax 105 SYNC) on mild steel. The SYNC series is a popular choice for most SMEs.

The highest amperage air plasma in the Hypertherm catalogue, the Powermax 125 has a pierce capacity of 25 mm across mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.

Being at the pinnacle of the Powermax family, Powermax 125 has a heavy-duty 100% duty cycle at 125A for the more demanding user.

The MAXPRO200 plasma is a unit that sits in between the standard air plasma, and the high-definition XPR system. It has a pierce capacity of 32 mm on mild steel, and an edge cut of around 50 mm. This unit has three different amperage controls, 50A, 130A and 200A, so anything from 0.5 mm, up to 32 mm, this unit can cover. 

Engineered for heavy-duty, high-capacity mechanised cutting, the MAXPRO200 delivers repeatable performance across a range of industrial applications.

Bridging the gap between air plasma and high-definition, MAXPRO200 includes the option of cutting with pure oxygen plasma gas. Providing a cleaner edge and faster cutting compared to air plasma.

Hypertherm also offer a high-definition range, called the XPR. We work very closely with the XPR systems on our tables, and they offer an extremely high cut quality and consistency. They come in three variants: XPR170, XPR300 and the XPR 460. Each variant has it’s own pierce capacity on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium, and cuts with mixed gases, creating a better cut quality throughout every type of material that you’re looking to work with.

The Hypertherm XPR high-definition plasma-cutting systems mark the most substantial leap forward in mechanised plasma-cutting technology to date.
